GFNCA is proud to provide the Serenity Community Gardens and Urban Farm as an added amenity to the Glenmont Forest Community Park. Established in 2023, the Serenity gardens provide an opportunity for our neighbors to work cooperatively providing food and community cohesion for the neighborhood.
Currently sustained by our all-volunteer garden stewards, we are thankful to the support of several organizations including the MD Agriculture Department, District 18 Legislative Delegation, MoCo Department of Environmental Protection, MoCo Fire and Rescue Service, MoCo Department of General Services, Impact Silver Spring, HarvestShare, One Montgomery Green, Rock Creek Conservancy, Sanctuary Urban Farm, PEPCO, and others.

Serenity Gardens Begins Food Donation Program

The Serenity Gardens is a Participating Garden with HarvestShare. We coordinate and track harvests and donations to food banks. As of August 22, 2026, we have harvested over 950 pounds of produce to distribute this year.

We have started our "grow to donate" program with the help of HarvestShare. The first few donations have been delivered to MUM (IMid County United Ministries) located in the Westfield Wheaton nonprofit building. We are also planning distributions to Hughes Church food hub and So What Else, amongst others.

Volunteer Opportunities
We rely on our volunteer garden stewards to help organize harvest events, maintain our plots, and document and package our produce for delivery to our partner food banks. The MD State Agriculture Department's Water & Power Infrastructure Grant supports new economical and sustainable water access from the fire station to the gardens. Pictured above is the newly installed hydrant. A drip irrigation system is planned and supported by this grant, as well as electrical power.

MoCo OFSR Community Gardens Grant
This grant supports a part-time farm manager, expansion, and a food donation program. A major goal for the Serenity Gardens is to be a resource for local food banks and other deserving nonprofit organizations. We farm cooperatively and create community cohesion. A future farmers market is also planned.

2026 Season Kickoff Meeting
Garden Stewards joined us on Saturday, April 11 to help make the Serenity Community Gardens & Urban Farm a sustainable asset for the community.
